U.M. ARMY-Rio TX is a place where youth grow into leaders.  It is our mission to provide Christ-centered quality youth work camps that serve people in need and promote spiritual growth and leadership development in youth.  The youth that work in our camps return home more confident in themselves, their relationship with Christ, more active in their churches, and better able to problem solve because they have helped their “neighbors”.  Our camps truly grow these kids and give them the opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world.

U.M. ARMY High School missions begin on Sunday afternoons with church groups meeting each other as they unload their tools and set up camp in our host church.  Work teams are then identified and youth begin to get to know each other through ice breakers and base camp rotations.  Monday through Friday the teams work on pre-sited homes throughout the community we are serving making repairs as needed.  Repairs can include, but are not limited to:  scraping and painting, building wheelchair ramps porches and steps, replacing doors, screens and windows as well as minor roof and porch repair.   We begin and end each day with worship and the teams are encouraged to invite their clients to join them on site for lunch devotions as well as to dinner at our host church on client night.  Our host communities provide a wonderful back drop for our camps and we always experience fun activities led by our program team throughout the week.  U.M. ARMY is unique in its ability to provide the students (grades 9-12) with the tools and teaching they need to  not only complete their sites; but to encourage the youth to identify additional needs of the clients and help for the clients.

U.M. ARMY BASIC missions are designed with middle school students (grades 6-8) in mind.  Our work days begin and end early so that there is plenty of time for the youth to complete their projects as well as organized fun in the afternoons and evenings.  We work really hard to fuse mission work camp and church camp for a unique camp experience.  Camps begin on Sunday evenings and run through mid-day Thursdays.  The youth are assigned work teams and complete service projects at churches and non-profit organizations.  Work can include, but is not limited to:  building wheelchair ramps, scraping and painting as well as other minor construction, cleaning and organizing, yard work.  Upon returning back to camp after working on sites youth are given opportunities to craft, swim, cook,  and play silly games.  We begin and end each day with worship encouraging all participants to identify and celebrate each other’s random acts of kindness. Believing Affirming Serving IChrist is what BASIC is all about!
